Examples of multipliers for Chattahoochee with partnerships.
As always, the rule for determining the multiplier when a player goes out is:
The multiplier is the number of opposing players who have not yet gone out.
The rule is simple to apply, but eight scenarios are elaborated below for the reader who wants to see the mechanism. Listed clockwise, the players in the four-player scenarios are Amber, Betty, Cindy, and Diana; the six-player scenarios add Ellie and Flora.
2-of-2. Four players, two partnerships of two players each. Partnerships are Amber-Cindy; Betty-Diana.
- Scenario 1: The first two players to go out are partners:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 2 (Betty, Diana).
- Cindy goes out second; multiplier 2 (Betty, Diana).
- If play continued, the multiplier for Betty or Diana when going out would be zero, so the game ends instead.
- Scenario 2: The first two players to go out are opponents:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 2. (Betty, Diana).
- Betty goes out second; multiplier 1 (Cindy).
- Cindy and Diana continue play as in the non-partnership game; whoever goes out will have multiplier 1.
3-of-2. Six players, three partnerships of two players each. Partnerships are Amber-Diana; Betty-Ellie; Cindy-Flora.
- Scenario 3: The first two players to go out are partners:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 4 (Betty, Cindy, Ellie, Flora).
- Diana goes out second; multiplier 4 (Betty, Cindy, Ellie, Flora).
- Now there are two partnerships of two players each, to be resolved as in scenario 1 or 2 above.
- Scenario 4: The first three players to go out are opponents:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 4 (Betty, Cindy, Ellie, Flora).
- Betty goes out second; multiplier 3 (Cindy, Diana, Flora).
- Cindy goes out third; multiplier 2 (Diana, Ellie).
- Opponents Diana, Ellie, and Flora continue play as in the non-partnership game. The first of them to go out has multiplier 2; the next, multiplier 1.
- Scenario 5: Two opponents go out, followed by a partner of one of them:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 4 (Betty, Cindy, Ellie, Flora).
- Betty goes out second; multiplier 3 (Cindy, Diana, Flora).
- Diana goes out third; multiplier 3 (Cindy, Ellie, Flora).
- Now Ellie alone is facing partners Cindy and Flora.
- If Ellie goes out, her multiplier is 2 (Cindy, Flora), and the game ends.
- If Cindy goes out, her multiplier is 1 (Ellie). Ellie and Flora continue as in the non-partnership game.
2-of-3. Six players, two partnerships of three players each. Partnerships are Amber-Cindy-Ellie; Betty-Diana-Flora.
- Scenario 6: The first three players to go out are partners:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- Cindy goes out second; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- Ellie goes out third; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- If play continued, the multiplier for Betty, Diana, or Flora when going out would be zero, so the game ends instead.
- Scenario 7: The first two players to go out are opponents:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- Betty goes out second; multiplier 2 (Cindy, Ellie).
- Now there are two partnerships of two players each, to be resolved as in scenario 1 or 2 above.
- Scenario 8: Two partners go out, and then an opponent:
- Amber goes out first; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- Cindy goes out second; multiplier 3 (Betty, Diana, Flora).
- Betty goes out third; multiplier 1 (Ellie).
- Now Ellie alone is facing partners Diana and Flora.
- If Ellie goes out, her multiplier is 2 (Diana, Flora), and the game ends.
- If Diana goes out, her multiplier is 1 (Ellie). Ellie and Flora continue as in the non-partnership game.
Similar principles apply with more players, depending on how many there are: 2-of-4, 4-of-2, 3-of-3, et cetera.
